Better connection
MIMO XR technology not only offers you greater range
but a more reliable connection as well. The number of
“dead spots” during use within closed rooms is signifi -
cantly reduced. The result is an optimal Wireless LAN
signal throughout the entire area.
Higher speed
MIMO XR technology offers you higher actual data
transfer rates up to 35Mbps. That means up to 30%
higher data throughput than with comparable products
using the 802.11G standard. MIMO XR allows a more
constant data transmission rate, particularly for large
multimedia fi les. This ensures fl awless transmission of
video streams.
Higher range
Thanks to the “Smart Antenna” technology that
operates with 3 antennas, MIMO XR technology offers
a signifi cantly increased range. For indoor applications
you have up to 2 times greater range and for output
applications up to 4 times greater range than with the
typical products using the 11G standard.
What is MIMO?
MIMO stands for Multiple Input, Multiple Output.
With this technology, multiple directional antennas help WLAN devices achie-
ve better throughput and even allow skip-free streaming of video data to the
living room through multiple walls.
This makes it possible to increase the previous net bit rates from between 20
to 25 Mbit/s up to 50 Mbit/s.
The radio connection is improved in two ways with MIMO:
• Firstly, multiple antennas operating in a group deliver a stronger reception
signal, which allows larger distances to be crossed.
At the same time, better reception is achieved at given distance, which
enables higher throughput.
• Secondly, the antenna group can develop a directional effect with additio
nal electronics in order to better focus on the opposite wireless node or
tune out disruptions.
A test of current 54-Mbit WLAN devices with MIMO technology already con-
firms the streaming capability of current MIMO technology at least within a
single story, even for DVD content, as long as there are not too many thick
walls between the transmitter and receiver.
With MIMO and further improvements in the coming WLAN technology,
wireless networks will catch up with fast Ethernet over the medium term. This
will finally make wireless networks a serious alternative to cabling even for
die-hard fans of physical wires.
